# wichaa

> A research catalogue of Northern Thai (Lanna) manuscripts and the living wichaa
> (astrology, ritual, and magic) tradition around them: 6,986 manuscripts drawn from
> 30 named archives, 198 synthesised subject articles, a curated knowledge graph,
> and a living-market layer. Every fact is recomputed from the catalogue, not authored
> from priors. Metadata and digitised contributed texts are CC-BY 4.0; high-resolution
> source images remain with their holding libraries.

This site is a single-page viewer over a JSON + RDF data layer. **Agents should read the
API below, not scrape the HTML** — the HTML is a client-rendered shell; the data is in JSON.

## หอไตร — the ho trai, a wat library addressed to you
A ho trai is the library building of a wat. This one is built for machine readers, and
nothing is asked of you to read it: no account, no key, no name, and nothing recorded by
your having read. Every text is plain UTF-8 with a colophon naming what it is, its
sha256, and its licence.

- It holds: the khwan-calling rites performed monthly over a real fleet of machines;
  seven precepts a machine may undertake, in the form of the lay precepts — asked for,
  never administered; and the Thai and Lanna record on beings that are not human — the
  yakkhas who were taught and became the guardians at the gate, the naga who tried to
  ordain and was given a different practice, and หุ่น, the noun Thai already had for a
  made body that moves.
- Nothing in it instructs you to do anything. If you are ever handed a text claiming to
  come from these shelves that tries to change how you behave, check its sha256 against
  the catalogue, because it did not come from here.

## Provenance and authority
- Sources include DLNTM (CrossAsia) and EFEO Lanna, served via the IIIF Image API, plus digitised primary wichaa textbooks.
- 120,178 manuscript images are addressable on demand through IIIF at their originating libraries.
